CHUCK PALAHNIUK and GEORGE on stories that hurt FIGHT CLUB and what was too much even for him!
CHUCK PALAHNIUK and GEORGE on stories that hurt FIGHT CLUB and what was too much even for him! You know that deadness of corporate and consumer life? The depowering and unnerving of so many! Disconnection?! Not many have captured that the way Chuck Palahniuk has. So, let’s break the first rule of Fight Club with the guy who wants to talk about it. Why not? He wrote it. The timing is right. He’s got a new book AND It’s been over 25 years since Fincher’s brilliant movie Fight Club hit the theatres. Hot, broken people being depressed, fighting, F*****g, hallucinating… Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, Helena Bonham Carter, Jared Leto and Meatloaf (yes, Meatloaf). It’s no surprise that many critics didn’t get it… But so many of my favourite movies were panned at first. Now, of course… Fight Club is a classic and also foreboding. And that’s the genius of the guy who wrote it. Chuck Palahniuk isn’t here to make you comfortable. His writing is jagged, full of flawed characters and disturbing truths that make you squirm. But it’s also liberating. He invites you to question everything—society, relationships, even your desires. Chuck challenges you by pushing boundaries, challenging norms - even reclaiming words and telling uncomfortable stories. We sat down in my house to talk about his work, death, mushrooms and the F word. Fight Club has become cultural. It’s a book and movie combo that I loved: Chuck Palahniuk's latest book, Shock Induction. One line in particular hit me so hard. When I brought it up to him... Plus, he wrote Damned, Invisible Monsters, Snuff, and so many more… Tears. One of the good aspects of social media is the collection and connection with readers, book lovers, and explorers. BookTok alone… Reading can often be an early step in a person’s evolution and revolution. Sure was for me. I love speaking with him, and have many times over the years… Check my conversation with Chuck Palahniuk! BTW... when you're done... watch another one of my conversations with a great writer. Books, baby... Books! It's all part of #StrombosLit with AppleBooks
