1959 Mercedes Benz 220S (W180) Introduction

I've wanted a Ponton Mercedes Benz for several years. Specifically, a 6-cylinder sedan. Excellent sedans are very hard to find as they are extremely expensive to restore. In March of 2025 I took delivery of a wonderful 1959 220S (W180) Ponton sedan. It underwent a 29-year (on and off) complete cosmetic and mechanical restoration. It was last licensed for the road in 2023 but most likely has not been driven in over 10-years and has spent its post-restoration time sitting in a garage. The gentleman I purchased this car from had owned it since 1971, but bad health and age did not allow him to enjoy his beloved W180 after the restoration was fully completed in 2017. In this video I introduce you to this car at the same time I take my first serious look at it. In the video I state that this car has twin Solex carburetors when in fact it has aftermarket twin, 2-barrel down-draft Weber carburetors with electric chokes. This is a period correct and popular "upgrade." Subsequent videos will document getting the car back on the road.
