Who is entitled to it: Family members of a person with a severe disability, covered by Article 3, paragraph 3 of Law 104. They must cohabit or reside in the same building with the same street number, or have a temporary residence if moving from another municipality. Order of priority: Discover the order of priority among family members who can request leave: spouse, partner or de facto partner, mother and father, children and siblings, relatives up to the third degree. There is no single point of contact, so only one relative can be granted at a time. How to apply: Private employees can apply online at INPS (National Institute of Social Security) or through a CAF (Café) or social security center (Patronati), while public employees must contact the personnel office of their institution. A response should arrive within 30 days, and leave cannot be denied. Amount due: The salary is equal to the last salary, including contributions, the thirteenth and fourteenth month's pay. The maximum limit is €56,586 in 2024. No vacation or severance pay accrues during leave. Suspension of leave: Leave is suspended in the event of hospitalization in a healthcare facility, with some specific exceptions, such as requests for assistance from healthcare professionals, interruptions for certified visits and therapies, or the patient's vegetative state or terminal illness.
