Faith is not casual, nor is it a mere desire for something better. In the Old Testament, faith was often produced by witnessing the acts, deeds, and mighty works of God. In the New Testament, however, faith is produced by believing in a Person—Jesus Christ. He further indicates that through faith in Christ, believers are justified, sanctified, and glorified. Every aspect of our inheritance as believers is anchored on faith, and that faith is rooted in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Romans 1:16 reveals that the Gospel is the power of God unto salvation, while 2 Corinthians 5:21 reminds us that Christ became sin for us so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. The message also emphasized that faith must be anchored on the Good News of why Christ came. The Gospel is not simply a message about religion; it is God’s announcement of salvation, redemption, reconciliation, and transformation through Jesus Christ. Luke 4:18 reveals the heart of this message—the proclamation of liberty, healing, restoration, and hope. Pastor Shola explained that our faith is anchored both in the person of Jesus and in His message. Victory is found when believers understand and embrace the Gospel. John 1:4-5 declares that in Christ was life, and that life was the light of men. The light of God’s Word brings clarity, confidence, and strength to our faith. The finished work of Christ provides the substance upon which faith stands. When God’s Word comes, it must be received with joy and confidence. Scriptures such as Luke 1:37 and Ephesians 3:20 remind believers that nothing is impossible with God and that He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think. It is not enough to hear the Good News; believers must understand, believe, and live in the reality of what Christ has accomplished. The Gospel encompasses the incarnation of Jesus, His atoning sacrifice on the Cross, His burial, resurrection, ascension, and the new life made available to all who believe. Pastor Shola further taught that what solidifies our faith is the reality that Christ died, rose again, and reigns today. This truth forms the foundation of New Testament faith. Just as Christ experienced death and resurrection, believers now share in His life and victory through faith. Drawing from Matthew 9:1-6, he Pastor Shola wrapped up the teaching by highlighting that the connection between forgiveness and wholeness. Jesus first addressed the paralytic’s greatest need by forgiving his sins before demonstrating His power to heal. The finished work of Christ affects every area of the believer’s life.
