In this episode we'll travel to several locations in Portugal to capture a bit of railway action. 00:56 I. Aveiro is a city of beautiful canals and architecture on the northern Atlantic coast of Portugal. Porto, the second largest city after the Portuguese capitol Lisbon, is an important railway center for Northern Portugal. The Linha do Minho (Minho Line) begins at Porto São Bento station in the heart of Porto, meets the Linha do Norte at the sprawling Porto Campanhã station and then continues north to cross the Minho River into Spain. 08:19 IC 521 - Intercity train departing empty to the depot 09:15 Linha 18 - Porto City Tram (trolley) Railway worker strikes were occuring during this December visit and the schedule of trains was substantially reduced. Ovar is a small market town located between Porto and Aveiro. Entroncamento is a major junction point for the Portuguese railways. It's also home to the Museu Nacional Ferroviário (National Railway Museum). The museum boasts an extensive collection of Portuguese steam locomotives dating back to the mid 19th century. Ermesinde on the Linha do Minho is a few stops north of the giant Campanhã station on the Porto urban train line.
