Following reports that his name was floated at a Nissan board meeting as a potential return to the company amidst its ongoing crises, Lebanese businessman and former Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance chairman Carlos Ghosn spoke to An-Nahar newspaper, asserting that what happened at Nissan was not merely a passing crisis, but rather the result of a "strategic error" and weak management, as he described it. He believes that the alliance, once a global powerhouse in the automotive industry, has become an ineffective entity. Ghosn, who maintains his innocence of the Japanese charges, says that his return to Nissan is politically difficult but not practically impossible. He emphasized that he knows the company, Japan, and the market better than ever, and that he is capable, if the circumstances are right, of rebuilding Nissan and rescuing it from its decline.
