The History of Blacks on Miami Beach
Black workers, mainly from the Bahamas, cleared the land and built most of the infrastructure of Miami Beach but were not allowed to live there. Black celebrity entertainers filled the nightclubs during the "hey day" of jazz in the Fifties but they could not stay in Miami Beach hotels. Now the Beach is diverse but it was a historic struggle. This video was produced for the Miami Beach Visual Memoirs project under a grant from the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority. #ExperienceMiamiBeach #mdpl1976
