The MG3 Hybrid+ was the best small car I reviewed in 2024! The new ZS Hybrid+ uses the same 1.5L self-charging Hybrid+ powertrain producing a combined 194BHP. The ZS boasts a 1.83kWh battery which is more than double the size of some other hybrids. The 3-speed automatic transmission is also a unique factor, which is surprisingly smooth and provides almost seamless changes from electric to petrol / hybrid power. The small hybrid SUV segment is ever growing, with more premium options offered such as the Lexus LBX & Honda HR-V to more affordable models like the Renault Captur and Toyota Yaris Cross. The ZS undercuts pretty much every rival, whilst also being one of the fastest in the class and offering plenty of equipment. Around town the ZS impressed, with an excellent economy! Going up to motorway speeds, you don’t get the same efficiency (however this is something most hybrids suffer from.) MG have seen record sales thanks to the introduction of the new HS last year as well the MG3 & continued success from the electric MG4, the ZS range will expand with the new EV arriving later this year (on a different platform)
