Without these clips, the rear packs are often zipped into or attached via molle to the rear of the plate bag. This causes a situation where you can’t access your own gear and you also can’t ditch your equipment if you need to move more quickly. Using a setup where you have a large pack stuck to you is not ideal. The Haley Strategic Hitchhike slides in via a horizontal molle loop and connects into the bottom of the swift clip. And not only does this allow for a functional rear bag, this also adds placard support to legacy plate carriers. I opted to connect in a personal favorite with the HRT Maximus front placard into the AWS OCPC. The top of the Haley strategic Hitchhike has a connector that then clips directly into the shoulder strap of the Flatpack (2.0/plus/v1/whatever). So your rear back is NOT connected to you but attached to the front placard supports. The side of the Flatpack straps then connects into the two other buckles that are sized and connected into the cummerbund. By adding the Haley Strategic Hitchhike, you give your plate carrier added functionality to connect in a functional rear plate backpack. You can unto the side clips and flip the back over the back of your head, allowing you to have full access to all of your gear in your backpack. Conversely, you could also take both of the clips off of the top of the carrier to remove it completely. This adds a ton of functionality. You may find you want to keep your bag with you when going into a more covert setup and the HSP Hitchhike is the way to do it. Just unclip the bag, remove the carrier, clip the straps together and you’re ready to rock. I’ve been searching for ages on a solution to make the rear backpack such a questionable choice and the hitchhike ads the functionality that I need for it to make sense. I can certainly see how some mission sets may have issues with some of the extra straps and such getting in the way of other gear.
