2021 marks 30 years since the landmark Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in custody. Begining in 1987, the Royal Commission examined the high rates of Aboriginal deaths in custody over a 10-year period. On 15 April 1991, it and handed down over 330 recommendations on ways to reduce the number of Aboriginal people passing away in police custody. But little has changed.
