Do I NEED my own PA system

Recently got this question from a young band just starting out. Truth is, even full-time professional professionals often way out in the benefits and set backs of buying/and/or keeping their PA systems or not. Here is my take on that for those needing input. Hope this helps. set clear goals. if your goals revolve around online exposure, you may want to spend that $ on equipment that will help you in that department. if your goals involve performing acoustic and you’re playing in venues primarily that have sound systems, again, you may choose to spend elsewhere. if your goals involve playing with a band and practicing, or you live in an area where there are no venues, I would then consider buying your own PA. if you decide to get a PA, there is very little sense in starting off with a high power system because 80% of your shows you will be getting asked to play quietly anyway. The exception to this of course is if you’re becoming a larger, successful act and you choose to have a road-worthy setup to travel with. That is an entirely different conversation and not really meant for the kids just starting out. Hope this helps.
