Then comes the gradual fading of the era of grand projects: the strengthening of bureaucracy, the growth of the role of nomarchs, reforms and the restructuring of the state model towards administrative complexity. And finally, the end of the Old Kingdom. The Sixth Dynasty, the weakening of central power, Pepi II as a symbol of prolonged decline, and climatic changes around 2200 BC, which undermine the economic basis of the state.
