Back in the 90s they made their name initially off escape’s early success in 93 going platinum, followed by two more of the same status over the next 5 years. We all know 1994 was one of the best years ever in hip hop history, and one artist that released that year was a young 20 year old DaBrat with her debut “Funkdafied” album that of course went platinum. The very next year escape released again and went platinum, making that 3 straight platinum albums to begin their 30 years of existence. Gold Da Brat, Kris Kross and Jagged edge albums in 96 and 97, then back on track to platinum or better success again with of course escape and the debut album of Jermaine Dupri in 98, that had the hit song Money Ain’t a Thing feat Jay-z that was nominated for a Grammy award in 1999. 99 and early 2000 was when so so def as a label went really crazy. Jagged Edge going double platinum in 99 on the second album and the best selling of their career. Da Brat kept her platinum streak going to begin the 2000s, right before the biggest thing to ever happen to so so def, which was of course former stunted growth music feature Bow Wow, began his reign the year 2000, with his double platinum debut that gave Jermaine Dupri and so so Def their new and improved Kris Kross, but a lot more charismatic and even more marketable. Throughout the 2000s so so def adapted to the new crunk/swag/snap era well with groups like Dem Franchise Boys, young bloods, Bone Crusher and even one hit wonders like JKwon and Rocko. But since 2006, none of their projects have had similar success, and by then they had lost all their stars and superstar artist.
