Bulaklakan | Maglalatik | Tinikling | HCC Multicultural Festival

Franklin High School’s Tinikling Dance Club is a cultural dance group that specializes in traditional Philippine Folk Dance. Established in 2008, our club continues to share the beauty of Filipino culture through our dance. We take on various performance opportunities, hoping to honor Philippine tradition through our fulfilling and energizing dances. Towards the end of our school year, we host our annual Make A Change. Helen Carr Castello’s Multicultural Festival was an event where students and families celebrated, shared, and learned about various cultures represented at their school. The event will include booths, cultural dances, and other cultural performances. Choreographed in a day, our dancers hosted a booth, performed short segments of three dances, and held tinikling tutorials. Bulaklakan is a traditional Filipino dance that originates from the province of Bulacan, named for its abundance of flowers. This dance dedicates itself to the Virgin Mary performed usually during May as part of celebration for Holy week. The dance mimics the act of making and presenting floral garlands — a common practice during religious festivals. Handcrafted by the members and leading officers of this dance, the arches displayed are a vibrant testament to tradition, unity, and the shared artistry that brings the celebration to life. Originating from Biñan of the Laguna Province, Maglalatik portrays the battle between Christian & Muslim Filipinos. This masculine dance hits coconut shells together to create rhythmic sounds. It’s divided into four parts: the palipasan and the baligtaran, which portray warfare, while the paseo and escaramuza portray reconciliation. Contact us!
