Why I No Longer Use the King James Version (KJV)
Although I grew up using the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible and was completely comfortable with it, I've come to discover that it has some major shortcomings. Now, to be clear, it was about the best translation that could be done in the year 1611. However, subsequent advances in manuscript discovery, translation accuracy, and understanding of biblical Hebrew and Greek have resulted in significant improvements in our English translations. Furthermore, the English language has changed so significantly that not only are some of the KJV's archaic words no longer in use, but quite a number of them now mean something different today than what they meant in the 17th century. For all of these reasons I no longer use the KJV for personal reading, intensive study, or teaching others. This doesn't mean that the KJV is bad or useless, it's just that many modern translations are better. For more information about Bible translation or Sean Finnegan, visit https://restitutio.org
