De la IMPUTACIÓN de Alex Saab a la de ZAPATERO | El ANÁLISIS de DAVID ALANDETE
Alex Saab, the alleged front man for Nicolás Maduro, appeared before a Miami federal court on Monday, May 18, after being deported over the weekend by the government of Delcy Rodríguez. He arrived in handcuffs and wearing a prison uniform. At his initial hearing, he responded "yes, ma'am" when the judge informed him that he was charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering. The indictment is linked to a scheme involving bribes paid to high-ranking Venezuelan officials to obtain government contracts. The Justice Department's indictment alleges that Saab participated in an international money laundering conspiracy with two main fronts: food from the CLAP program and oil from PDVSA. According to the prosecution, Saab and other conspirators bribed Venezuelan officials to secure lucrative contracts from the Local Committees for Supply and Production (CLAP), the program created by the Chavista regime to import food for the most vulnerable populations. According to the indictment, the defendants falsified the nature and origin of these supplies, including shipments purportedly from Colombia and Mexico. The Department of Justice maintains that, instead of fully complying with these contracts, the network used shell companies, false invoices, forged shipping documents, and other fabricated paperwork. Through this scheme, the indictment alleges, they diverted hundreds of millions of dollars intended to purchase food for Venezuelans in need. Some of this money was allegedly spent or concealed through transfers to or via bank accounts in the United States. For the prosecution, this is the basis of the charge: the use of the U.S. financial system to move funds derived from bribery, fraud, and embezzlement. 🔤 Don't miss any stories, subscribe to our channel 🤝 https://www.youtube.com/@ABC_es?sub_c... ✍️ Follow the latest news live: https://www.abc.es 📰 All the information on ABC: https://www.abc.es/ 📲 Want more? https://bit.ly/3KKmZvd #Zapatero, #PlusUltra, #Defendants, #AlexSaab, #Venezuela, #Justice, #News, #AlexSaab, #Venezuela, #Miami, #InternationalJustice, #SaabCase, #NewsOfTheDay, #Diplomacy, #Corruption, #CurrentEvents, #Legal, #Prosecutor'sOffice, #PlusUltraCase, #PSOE, #FormerPresident, #ZP Visit our social media 🤳 🐦 Twitter: / abc_es ⬛ TikTok: / abc.es 📸 Instagram: / abc_diario 🟦 Facebook: / abces
