Assim Era Fordlândia Antes do Abandono | 1928 | A Cidade Americana Perdida na Amazônia
🌿 In 1928, Henry Ford packed an entire city onto two ships and sent it to the Amazon. Michigan-style houses, a golf course, a movie theater, a hospital designed by Albert Kahn—all built on the banks of the Tapajós River, in the middle of the forest, by a man who never saw the result. Fordlândia was Ford's attempt to break the British rubber monopoly by cultivating rubber trees in the land where the tree was native. The project lasted seventeen years, cost twenty million dollars, and never produced a drop of latex. The workers' revolt in the cafeteria, the fungus that destroyed the plantations, the synthetic rubber that made everything irrelevant—and the silent abandonment of a city that still exists today in ruins on the banks of the Tapajós. This is the complete story of Fordlândia. SOURCES: GRANDIN, Greg. Fordlândia: Rise and Fall of Henry Ford's Forgotten Jungle City. São Paulo: Rocco, 2010. WIKIPEDIA. Fordlândia.
