How the SBS Proved the CIA Wrong About the Falklands Before the War Even Started
In April 1982, the CIA sent a classified assessment to the White House. It said Britain faced major difficulties retaking the Falkland Islands. The distances were too great. The Argentine defences too established. The odds too long. America's top intelligence analysts looked at the situation and concluded that what Britain was attempting was, at best, unlikely. What the CIA did not know, what nobody outside a very small circle of British commanders knew, was that while that assessment was being written, a group of SBS operators were already on the islands.
