GBV Epidemic | The brutal reality faced by the elderly
The elderly are among the most vulnerable in society yet they are under siege in some communities of the Eastern Cape. In Cacadu, formerly known as Lady Frere, around 11 elderly people were murdered over the past two years. In some instances, murders occur during robberies while in others, elderly women were killed after being accused of witchcraft. The Eastern Cape Department of Social Development is now using the UN-Women initiative to mobilise the government, the private sector, and communities against gender-based violence and femicide. eNCA's Ronald Masinda reports.
