Evolution of Chevrolet El Camino: From sedan pickup to Muscle Car
This is the evolution of the Chevrolet El Camino! The Chevrolet El Camino was a car/truck hybrid vehicle produced by Chevrolet between 1959 and 1987. Inspired by the Ford Ranchero, which had been released two years earlier, the El Camino combined the Chevrolet sedan platform with an integrated cargo bed body. It was, as the ads said, "the most beautiful thing that ever carried a load!" In this video, we will follow the history and evolution of all El Camino models, from the first generation based on the Biscayne 2, to the latest generation based on the GM G-body 2. We will see how the El Camino went from a practical and elegant vehicle, to a powerful and sporty one, equipped with the SS engine that turned it into one of the iconic muscle cars of the 60s and 70s. We will also discover how the El Camino was influenced by Australian ute culture (coupé utility) and how it inspired other similar models such as the GMC Sprint or the Chevrolet SSR.
