Horse Brain Science with Dr. Peters
"A deeper understanding, from quality information, will ultimately be what is best for the welfare of our horses." Dr. Steve Peters In this presentation with Dr. Peters, you will learn about and see important structures in the horses brain and how those structures allow your horse to perceive, feel, understand, process, move and learn. You will learn how to optimize your communication and to be clear in what you ask of horses based on brain function. You will learn to deepen your relationship by creating an environment built on trust and feeling safe. By using your horse’s brain functioning and neurochemistry you will learn how to help them reset their nervous system and self-regulate their own behavior. Dr. Steve Peters is a Neuroscientist specializing in brain functioning. Dr. Peters did his practicum at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Internship at Danbury Hospital in Danbury Connecticut and Residency and two year Post Doctoral Fellowship at Hartford Hospital in the Departments of Neurorehabilitation, Neurology and Neurosurgery. He and Martin Black co-authored the book, Evidence Based Horsemanship as a way to help us understand and be aware of how a horse's nervous system affects its behavior, and why that is important when working with horses. The information he shares is based on the best scientific information available today. He and Martin participate together in quarterly EBH virtual clinics (Martinblack.net) and the annual EBH colt starting clinic in Maine. He has given Equine Brain Science seminars/presentations and performed Horse Brain dissections around the world for the horse owning public as well as Veterinarians and Veterinary Surgeons. Dr. Peters works with Mark Rashid and Jim Masterson on various projects including their annual Equine Brain Seminar, Your Horse’s Brain, A User’s Manual. Peters has been a frequent presenter at The Best Horse Practices Summit and at Warwick Schiller’s Journey On Podcast Summit. He also provided significant contributions to the book, Horsehead: Brain Science & other insights. He has collaborated with Canadian Psychotherapist, Sarah Schlote to create the Equuscience Master Course, (A trauma-informed and evidence-based lens on horse-human relationships) and educational focus classes such as The Neurobiology of Learning. (Equuscience.com). Learn more and see more opportunities to learn from Dr. Peters at https://horsebrainscience.info/.
