Kadena Runway 05 Ops | Rivet Joint, Combat Sent & F-35s!

Aircraft recoveries take center stage at Kadena Air Base as traffic returns from both training and operational sorties to the base’s parallel runways 05R and 05L. Located on Okinawa, Kadena is the largest and most active U.S. Air Force base in East Asia, supporting a wide range of missions across the Indo-Pacific. This video captures several KC-135 Stratotankers from the 909th Air Refueling Squadron “Young Tigers” arriving back at Kadena after completing aerial refueling missions. Also seen are F-35A Lightning IIs from a rotational fighter unit temporarily deployed to Kadena, rolling out after landing and clearing the runway. Adding to the mix are two of the U.S. Air Force’s most specialized intelligence aircraft: the RC-135W Rivet Joint and the RC-135U Combat Sent. These aircraft operate under the 55th Wing from Offutt Air Force Base, with the 82d Reconnaissance Squadron geographically separated at Kadena. Their presence highlights the critical reconnaissance and electronic intelligence missions conducted from Okinawa in support of regional security.
