The Septuagint is the most important Bible you've never heard of
The importance of the Greek translation of the Old Testament for the textual history of Scripture in both Hebrew and Greek and in both the Old and New Testament is invaluable! It encompassed a major part of the textual environment of second temple Judaism and early Christianity both in terms of number of copies and in the influence of those copies on other writers and scribes. Yet, thinking of the Septuagint as a single document or unit may actually be detrimental to how it operated and functioned within the ancient world.
