Jessica Chastain plays a wealthy American woman who can afford anything. She doesn't need to work; her family inheritance is enough to allow her to focus solely on the family foundation, which also offers substantial tax breaks. She can even afford to be in love with a Mexican ballet dancer who aspires to rise to the top and make a career in San Francisco—as long as the public doesn't find out. Isaac Hernández, a star of the ballet, takes on the role of the ambitious man and seducer. This unequal relationship isn't presented as a dark romance; rather, "Dreams: Dangerous Desire" intelligently explores class issues and shows how citizenship can either privilege or punish one. The film screened at the Berlinale in 2025, but hardly anyone took notice of this analytically strong and brilliantly acted work. Even now, its theatrical release threatens to go unnoticed.
