When Syama Prasad Mukherjee was attacked in Comilla in 1939, Bimalchandra shielded him with his own body to save him.A rare photograph of Bimal Chandra, with a plaster cast on his head following that incident, is preserved to this day. His son, Chandranath Chattopadhyay, has carefully kept his blood-stained shirt, rare photographs, letters, and numerous historical mementos.
