And a few other names given to these devices. In this video, I've compiled all the facts about them, both the basics and little-known details. Let's dive back into the world of Portal. A personality core is a device that contains an artificial intelligence developed by Aperture Science. Their main feature is that they can experience a wide range of emotions. Turrets can also be considered modules, just of a different shape and purpose. The personality cores were originally designed to control Glados. Every aspect of her personality was implanted in her thoughts, imposing her will and ideas. Some modules had no effect, while others simply malfunctioned and went crazy, and so they were put into storage. To keep them from lying idle, they were assigned different duties within the complex. It's likely that personality cores were later created for various purposes other than controlling Glados. They have handles for human transport, a built-in flashlight, a connector for independent movement on rails, and a plug for connecting to lab systems. A cube can be connected to it, as shown in one of the co-op maps (the final chamber of the 4th year). The cores from the first game have protective inserts on the sides, similar to those on turrets. This is what the cores look like when unsheathed, and is shown when activated at the end of the first game. Some cores have basic functions and intelligence, while others are practically indistinguishable from humans in behavior. They experience almost the full range of emotions and can even feel pain. During the battle with Glados, when Chell damages one, one of the cores flies off. It hovers in the air, still connected by a green, translucent beam. The core's influence on Glados ends only when Chell sends it into the furnace. The Orange Box Prima Guide states that the four disks above the glados represent each aspect of her personality modules. The personality modules are burned in a specific order, corresponding to the dots on the modules' sides. For example, the morality module is burned first, and has one dot on each side, and so on. At the end of Portal, the personality constructs are activated. The Portal 2 announcer states that even during the apocalypse, the modules will continue to function and keep the lab operational. Space? Space!
