The Underground begins its third season welcoming historian Virgínia Fontes for an analysis of imperialism, the crisis of capital, and the scenarios unfolding in the present. Starting from the concept of capital-imperialism, Fontes explains her opposition to the notion of neoliberalism, examines the role of foundations and institutes that present themselves as philanthropic or "non-profit" in organizing bourgeois interests (and in capturing both the public budget and intellectuals), and demonstrates how workers are subjected to a second expropriation in contemporary capitalism, which encroaches on their personal data and common natural resources. Furthermore, Fontes addresses a question of particular relevance, especially in an election year in Brazil: is the rise of fascism, as a violent form of political mobilization, a sign of the exhaustion of class conciliation and bourgeois consensus?
