新幹線で不審者対応訓練　刃物男を取り押さえろ

In June, a man attacked passengers one after another with a knife on a Shinkansen train, leaving one person dead. In preparation for similar emergencies, a drill was held in Mishima City on August 22nd using an actual Shinkansen train. While the drill usually prepares for natural disasters, in 2018 it also included a response to suspicious individuals. Crew members shared the situation with each other over the phone and further evacuated fleeing passengers. Once passengers' safety was ensured, they worked with the police to apprehend the suspicious individual. JR Central plans to equip all Shinkansen trains with protective equipment against suspicious individuals, such as protective shields and forks, by the end of 2018. JR Central also plans to increase the number of security guards and patrols on board.
