43 Teaching Change Ringing - A Road to Ringing, Part B - Call Changes by Place: Backstroke Changes

A demonstration of ringing call changes as an aid to teaching essential change ringing skills. The exercise teaches listening skills, bell handling skills in making clean changes, and ropesight. Note the changes are called by places: never by bell number, which would reinforce the dependence on "ringing by numbers". Some, or all, of the changes can be called to take effect at backstroke. Give students practice at changing place at backstroke before attempting plain hunt.
