After India got Independence in 1947,India was to able to absorb 565 princely states peacefully, but the Portuguese refused to give up their colonies in India. India finally had to go to war with Portugal with a military operation code named Operation Vijay. It was a big gamble as Portugal was a NATO member and India was not sure how US,UK and the world would react.
