Space will be the place for everyone | Takafumi Horie | TEDxSapporo
Born in 1972 in Fukuoka Prefecture. He is a former president of livedoor Co.,Ltd. While enrolled in Tokyo University, he founded Livin' on the EDGE Co., Ltd., the predecessor of livedoor Co.,Ltd. He has changed the company name to livedoor Co.,Ltd. in 2004, and has announced that livedoor acquired the old Kintetsu Buffaloes, a Japanese baseball team, which catapulted Mr. Horie into the limelight. In 2005, livedoor purchased stocks of radio station Nippon Broadcasting System (NBS) and became the largest stockholder, which led the company into trouble with a group business of NBS and Fuji Television. In 2006, he was arrested for allegations of securities fraud by the investigative team from the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office, and was sentenced to 2.5 years imprisonment in 2007. In 2011 the Supreme Court turned down the appeal and he was sent to jail on June 20, 2011. He was freed from jail on March 27, 2013. Currently, he plays an active role mainly in his own rocket development project. His mail-magazine "Can't tell on blog" has over 10,000 subscribers. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
