SON COEUR EST TROP GROS ET NE FONCTIONNE PLUS : LE CAS DE MARK CARROLL

For years, Mark Carroll embodied the very image of performance: an exceptional physique, iron discipline, and a career dedicated to pushing the limits of the human body. For millions of bodybuilding enthusiasts, he represented proof that with enough hard work, almost anything seemed possible. Yet, behind this facade of power, a much quieter reality was taking hold. A disease of the heart muscle, capable of progressing silently for years, until the day shortness of breath, fatigue, palpitations… and sometimes dramatic consequences appear. Because the heart, unlike the muscles we see in a mirror, can suffer for a long time before crying out for help. In this video, I explain what hypertrophic cardiomyopathy really is, why it can progress to heart failure in some patients, what symptoms should raise concern, and what science tells us about the possible links between this disease, intensive training, and the use of performance-enhancing drugs. As a cardiologist, I will distinguish between established facts and hypotheses to understand what is due to genetics, the environment, or certain risky practices. The goal is not to judge, but to remind people of a truth often forgotten in the fitness world: an impressive physique does not guarantee a healthy heart, and visible performance never tells the whole story.
