Are Energy and Momentum Even Real?
SKIP TO 14:05 FOR PHILOSOPHICAL DISCUSSION - FIRST PART EXPLAINS WHAT ENERGY AND MOMENTUM ARE Subscriber Count: 237 Are energy and momentum even real? These two physical concepts, and the fact that their totals are conserved in isolated systems - a principle, that, as far as I know, has never been shown experimentally to be wrong - are some of the most broadly applicable physical-problem-solving tools ever. Could their accuracy imply that they must describe some fundamental truth about the universe? Does the fact that they are human, mathematical creations mean that we can never say they are "real"? Should scientists be the ones who care? Are there any more exotic reasons to think that they are real? Do note that my expertise ("expertise" insofar as you can call a kid in Year 13 of school an expert) is primarily in the problem-solving rather than the philosophical interpretations of the physics - so I do apologise if it comes off as rambling, and encourage viewers to take this with a grain of salt, and form their own opinions - beyond the physics, the things I discuss are very much matters of debate and continual thinking. 0:00 Physics 14:05 Philosophy
