Budimex - TBM „Kinga” dokonała przełomu i zakończyła drążenie tunelu ewakuacyjnego pod Pisarzową!

At the construction site between Limanowa and Klęczany, the "Kinga" TBM has completed work on the evacuation tunnel, reaching the acceptance point on the western side of the facility. This marks a breakthrough in construction on railway line 104 and another significant stage in the implementation of the "Podłęże-Piekiełko" project, one of the most complex railway investments currently underway in Poland. After 359 days of work, the "Kinga" TBM has broken through, completing the excavation of the evacuation tunnel under Pisarzowa. This is a significant milestone for the entire project, which is currently under construction as one of the longest railway tunnels in Poland. The Limanowa–Klęczany siding section itself is part of the "Podłęże-Piekiełko" program – PKP PLK's largest project in southern Poland, which is expected to significantly improve future connections in Małopolska, shorten travel times, and increase freight transport capacity. "The successful completion of the evacuation tunnel marks the completion of one of the most demanding stages of this investment." This undertaking required not only appropriate technological resources and the import of specialized machinery, but also high levels of execution expertise. This project has been of particular importance to us from the outset – not only due to the scale of the technical challenges, but also its strategic role in the development of modern railway infrastructure in Poland. Today's stage brings us closer to completing the entire tunnel system and demonstrates that we are consistently translating ambitious goals into tangible progress," says Artur Popko, President of Budimex SA. The Limanowa-Klęczany section, being implemented by Budimex in consortium with Gülermak, includes the modernization and electrification of over 12.5 km of railway line No. 104, the construction of two tunnels under Pisarzowa, and a wide range of engineering works, including 10 viaducts and 12 bridges. Two shields – "Kinga" and "Jadwiga" – imported to Poland specifically for this project are in operation under Pisarzowa. Their task is to excavate two parallel tunnels, each approximately 3.8 km long. "Kinga" began work first and was responsible for constructing the evacuation tunnel, which will serve a key safety and maintenance function for the entire infrastructure. The larger "Jadwiga" shield, responsible for excavating the main railway tunnel, is working simultaneously. The contractor achieved an outstanding result – a staggering 46.02 meters (23 rings) excavated in a single 24-hour period, a new record and significantly exceeding the previous 32 meters per day. By comparison, the average daily rate to date has been approximately 11 meters, which best demonstrates the scale of this achievement. The main tunnel still has 672 meters remaining to be completed. "The scale of the work carried out in this phase is best demonstrated by the numbers. "Kinga" worked on this project for 359 days, of which 311 days were devoted to excavation alone." During this time, we installed 3,090 special tunnel lining rings, and the average work pace was approximately 11 meters per day, including downtime, and an average of 12 meters per day without any downtime. Breaking through the exit portal wall itself was one of the most demanding moments of the entire process, as it required very precise preparation of the machine's reception site, followed by control of the head's position to ensure safe passage through the portal's final wall at the previously planned location," says Maciej Olek, Member of the Management Board of Budimex SA and Operations Director of Railway, Energy, and Industrial Construction. Budimex is consistently strengthening its presence in the "Podłęże-Piekiełko" program. In addition to the construction of the Limanowa-Klęczany siding section, the company was responsible for the first section of the modernized Line No. 104, between Chabówka and Rabka Zaryte, commissioning. It is also building section H of line No. 622 between Szczyrzyc and Tymbark in a consortium with Gulermak. In March 2026, it signed an agreement with PKP PLK for the next stage of the investment – the construction of line No. 622 on the Podłęże R401–Gdów section and connecting line No. 627 on the Podłęże R301–Podłęże Balachówka section. #railway #tunnel #construction #Poland 📌 Subscribe to the Budimex channel to stay up to date with the largest infrastructure investments in Poland.
