Une journée dans les baskets de Christophe à Handilandes

Every two years, thanks to the SSID (Landes Department's Sports, Integration, and Development Service), the Port d'Albret saltwater lake transforms into a giant playground. Since 1992, the Landes Department's Sports, Integration, and Development Service has created a unique event every two years. Adapted cycling, surfing, beach rugby, Landes-style bullfighting, golf, team adventure races, and more: on the shores of the Port d'Albret saltwater lake, disability is neither hidden nor excused. It takes off, paddles, and scores tries. Beyond the numbers (1,700 participants, more than 50 partners, and an army of volunteers), we chose to follow Christophe, a resident of the Lestang assisted living facility in Soustons and a regular at SSID competitions, to understand what is really at stake here: an entire region mobilizing to ensure that sport knows no barriers. © Sekence / June 2026
