Dramatic Water Rescue Caught on Camera in Florida
A routine trespassing call in Daytona Beach Shores quickly turned into a foot chase—and then a pursuit across the Halifax River. According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office incident report, deputies contacted Chase Cruz on March 16, 2026, after responding to a report of an unknown man on vacant residential property. While deputies were speaking with him, Cruz allegedly ran through the surrounding neighborhood, reached the Halifax River, and began swimming away. With Cruz still in the water, Volusia Sheriff’s Office Deputy Manhart and Daytona Beach Shores Officer Ransom used paddleboards supplied by Volusia County Beach Safety to reach him and bring him back to shore. Cruz was charged with loitering or prowling and resisting an officer without violence. This video includes body-worn camera footage, drone footage, public records, and incident-report information obtained through public-records requests. Agency case number: VP260005550 All charges are allegations. Every person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
