The Rolex Explorer 36 vs. 40 vs. GMT Master II Mindful Horology Poster Child & Truly Essential Watch

They say there is no such thing as a perfect watch. I disagree. The Rolex Explorer is a watch that I would absolutely describe as the perfect watch. The poster child for Mindful Horology and a truly essential watch if there ever was one ☺️ Aesthetically beautiful, mechanically reliable, solid as a rock and slylistically timeless. The 36 is deliciously diminutive, and the 40 is contemporarily sporty 👍🏻 It is minimalistic excellence. Simple but not basic. Discreet but unforgettable. Stoic but not spartan. Modest and yet distinguished. Then there’s the name - Explorer - the best name to equally describe a watch, as well as its wearer. I cannot think of any other name that I like more, that I feel more connected to, or that resonates better. In the second part of the video I talk about my first love, the GMT Master II. Initially similar in ethos as they both represent fantastic travel and adventure watches, in time they’ve drifted as far apart as two similar and related watches can. One remains the equally simple, yet sophisticated, immensely reliable travel companion, while the other has become a liability. One is the poster child of Mindful Horology, and a most essential possession, while the other is the poster child of excess, the collecting lifestyle, flex culture and a favorite of hype beasts worldwide. And it’s not just the watches and the world that have changed. I have changed too. I totally started out as a GMT Master person, and paradoxically evolved into an Explorer person. As Mindful Horology matured in my mind so too has the concept of the essential watch and with it my taste for addition by subtraction, simplicity over complexity. Less was always more, but now it seems truer than ever, and even less is even more. As always, thank you for watching 🙏🏻 #mindfulhorology #attainableicons #rolex #explorer #watches
