New Magisk Update Adds Support for Android 12, Adds Zygisk & DenyList Features, Removes MagiskHide
The first new update to Magisk in 6 months is here and I'll be taking a look at the pre-beta changes in this video. ~~~~~ Hi! But after a lot of discussions and an outline of rules, Magisk is here to stay (at least for now). topjohnwu has just released the first update to Magisk in around 6 months and it comes in the form of an Canary build update. This is pre-beta software and is not recommended for use on your daily driver. So let me use one of my Android 12 devices (the Google Pixel 4a smartphone) and show you the latest changes and the newest features of Magisk. A big new change is that this new release is only compatible with 64-bit systems. This is fine for the majority of devices online today but there are still some aging smartphones and tablets that are stuck on a 32-bit kernel. Another big change here is the removal of the MagiskHide feature. Sadly, this means that many people will not be able to use the latest version of Magisk and continue to use their banking application(s). Pokemon Go is another popular app that is not playable without MagiskHide. There will be workarounds to this in the future. But right now things are still early and new/updated Magisk/Zygisk Modules will need to be built in order to tackle these tasks thanks to another new feature called the DenyList. The Magisk Module repository (that lets you download and install modules directly from the app) is also removed in this update. I know this is a big deal for many people but we will still be able to download modules from other sources (like XDA) and manually install them as we always could. This update also includes improved support for smartphones and tablets from OEMs including Meizu, OPPO, and Realme. I installed this on Android 12 with the Pixel 4a but it's also working on Samsung Galaxy, OnePlus, Sony Xperia devices as well.
