Before her and Justin Beiber would become the most talked about couple since Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. Before Selena revealed to the world that she had been diagnosed with Lupus and was undergoing chemotherapy. Selena Gomez was born to a 16 year old mother, her parents would split up when she was 5 and her mom would work three jobs simultaneously to try and stay ahead. Her mother too an actress brought Selena backstage at a stage show where Selena realized a career in performance was her dream as well. The jobs came quickly as she was cast in Barney and Friends at the age of 10. She would continue to work steadily but it wasn’t until she was dating the Beib’s did she become a household name on her own. Selena Marie Gomez was born on July 22nd, 1992 in Grande Prairie Texas. Her parents named her after singer Selena Quintanilla Perez, who was shot and killed in 1995. Her father Ricardo Joel Gomez is of Mexican descent, her mother Amanda Dawn "Mandy" Cornett of Italian descent would separate when Selena was 5. From there young Selena would be raised by both parents seperantly and spend a lot of time with her grandparents as her folks were so young they still had school of their own to complete. Selena was entered into local beauty pagents as a toddler, while her mother looked for work as an actress. Not landing anything major her mom would work three jobs simultaneously and money was tight. Selena recalls looking through the couch cushions for gas money and eating spaghetti purchased at the local dollar store. But, Selena witness the bozz of performing through her mother and decided she was game to give it a try. She began auditioning for TV and Modeling gigs and would bump into the likes of Demi Lovato at auditions.
