The United States government will be represented by Under Secretary of State Christopher Landau at the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Keiko Fujimori, Foreign Minister Carlos Pareja Ríos confirmed. This ruled out the attendance of President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. According to the Foreign Minister, Landau will head the U.S. delegation, which will consist of five or six officials who will participate in the official transfer of power ceremonies. Pareja Ríos also reported that the Foreign Ministry is working to reestablish diplomatic relations with Venezuela, which have been severed since July 2014. He explained that one of the main objectives is to reopen the Peruvian consulate in Caracas to serve the thousands of Peruvian citizens who are currently facing difficulties in completing consular procedures. The foreign minister indicated that these efforts include coordination with the United States government, given its capacity to engage in dialogue with Venezuelan authorities. DIPLOMATIC SITUATION WITH MEXICO Regarding the diplomatic situation with Mexico, with which relations have been suspended since November 2025, Pareja Ríos acknowledged that it is a complex issue. However, he avoided commenting on the case of former Prime Minister Betsy Chávez, whose political asylum prompted the severing of diplomatic ties between the two countries. The statements were made during a ceremony recognizing the USAR Peru team from the General Corps of Volunteer Firefighters of Peru, which participated in the search and rescue operations following the earthquake in Venezuela. Kayra, the rescue dog who was part of the mission and helped locate trapped individuals, was also honored at the event.
