Eight military counterintelligence operatives confront twelve professional SS saboteurs from the "Werwolf" group. HOWEVER: Such SMERSH operations did indeed take place in the Belarusian forests in 1944. "Werwolf" sabotage groups did indeed remain behind Soviet lines. Counterintelligence officers, partisans, and soldiers did indeed hunt down and eliminate these saboteurs. Many perished in this invisible war. We are more than confident that there were equally brave and courageous people who performed similar feats. Such operations did exist. Such sacrifices were made. The NKVD and KGB archives contain thousands of files on such operations, documenting the heroism of people whose names remained classified for decades.
