The value add is that electricity creates a consistent and reliable smoking temperature, while wood chips add flavor to the meat and/or vegetables that are being smoked. Assembling the Pit Boss was an easy one-person project and the build quality seems to be exceptional! I love the generously-sized smoker box for wood chips and it’s easy to slide out and and replenish wood chips as needed while smoking. The coated grates are top quality! I haven’t observed any air gaps where smoke escapes. Having an integrated analog ambient thermometer is nice! Since I will likely store my Pit Boss electric smoker outside with a cover over it, having less electronics is a positive aspect in my mind. There are a lot of other electric smokers on the market that contain Bluetooth and other electronics. I can’t help but to question how long those electronics would survive outside.
