Nestled at the foot of the Magaliesberg Mountains, this family-run farm has been producing traditional Dutch Gouda cheese since 1994 and offers warm country hospitality for visitors of all ages. Besides the restaurant and cheese tours, the farm is home to the famous Skeerpoort Trails, with over 100 km of routes crossing numerous private properties. There are trails suitable for hikers, trail runners, birders and mountain bikers, ranging from easy family walks to longer adventures through rivers, bamboo forests and beautiful bushveld scenery. Van Gaalen Kaasmakerij was established by Dutch-born Annelies Van Gaalen in 1994. The farm introduced traditional Gouda cheese to South Africa, where Cheddar had traditionally dominated the market. Cheese tours began in 1996 and have grown into a popular attraction for families and school groups. The extensive Skeerpoort trail network was developed by Erik Schipper and now offers over 100 km of hiking, running and mountain biking routes through the foothills of the Magaliesberg.
