Pourquoi faucher à la faux ?
Do you want to maintain your flower meadow the traditional way? Emmanuelle Bouffé, co-facilitator of mowing courses with Stefan Pop at the Potager-Fruitier de La Roche-Guyon (Val-d'Oise), shares the benefits of mowing with a scythe. It's an ecological, silent, wildlife-friendly method that requires expertise that combines efficiency, observation, and gentleness, suitable for all sizes of meadows or gardens. Why choose a scythe over a mower to maintain your meadow or garden? In this video, Emmanuelle Bouffé, co-facilitator of mowing courses with Stefan Pop at the Potager-Fruitier de La Roche-Guyon (Val-d'Oise), delves into the art of manual mowing. The approach is slow, based on observation of the terrain and its surroundings. Before any mowing, the areas are inspected to avoid disturbing animal nests hidden in the tall grass. Mowing can begin as early as April for hay production, then repeat every month and a half until September depending on the regrowth (or aftergrowth). In a garden, you can create mowed paths and leave other areas with tall grass. To maintain an attractive and vibrant meadow, it is recommended to mow between late June and mid-July at a height of 25-30 cm. Using a scythe reduces noise, cuts the grass more cleanly, even in the rain, and protects insects and small animals from escaping. Once properly sharpened, the tool is as effective as a razor. It requires practice and sure-footedness, but with practice, it becomes a smooth and effortless method. A practical and poetic guide for gardeners concerned about nature and biodiversity. 🌼 👉 Subscribe for sustainable tips and a vibrant garden! #scythe #garden #ecology #mowing #biodiversity 00:00: Why mow your flower meadow? 00:16: Observation and precautions before mowing 00:37: Mowing periods and regrowth 01:09: Recommended heights and biodiversity 01:44: Advantages of the scythe over the lawnmower 02:18: Techniques, safety, and pleasure of the process Our advice How to create a flower meadow in your garden? https://www.rustica.fr/permaculture/p...
