For instance, how come the Flintstones celebrated Christmas when they lived tens of thousands of years before Jesus was born? And what about the puns? There were some very adult jokes in the show that could at times be a little bit blue. And what about the origins of the show that kids may not pick up on? The show was based on a sitcom called The Honeymooners that was popular from the mid-1950s onwards. We’ll take a look at the tale of Dino and Juliet- how the show made a pastiche of the Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet (which many younger viewers won’t have heard of) but more to the point, many adults will have found themselves wondering whatever happened to Dino the Dinosaurs children after that episode. Then there are the hints of domestic violence. Fred always seems to be threatening Wilma, and Wilma thinks nothing about clocking Fred over the head. The story of Barney and Wilma’s desire to have children is a sad story that will no doubt have gone over the heads of children. We’ll look at the lengths the prehistoric couple went to when trying to adopt Bamm Bamm and the fact that the whole situation pushed Barney towards suicide. So what do you think about The Flinstones?
