Episode 826 Albert (Jack Howarth) grumbles about having Alice (Doris Hare) visiting him at No.3. Len (Peter Adamson) offers Ray (Neville Buswell) a partnership at the yard, but Ray’s not interested in running a small local firm. Albert is forced to go out wearing one of Dickie’s (Nigel Humphreys) jumpers. Jack (Arthur Leslie) provides Albert sanctuary from Alice in the Rovers. Effie (Anne Dyson) apologises to Val (Anne Reid) for being short-tempered with her. Effie feels humiliated when Hilda (Jean Alexander) confronts her for being behind with her window cleaning money. Albert’s refuge is ruined when Alice arrives at the Rovers. Determined to get away from her he goes into the gents and makes his escape through the window. Jack is shocked that Effie is considering pawning her watch and tries to talk her out of it. Albert quickly packs his bags and returns to Bury leaving Alice upset that she has frightened him off. Hilda receives a telegram from Australia announcing that Irma (Sandra Gough) has given birth to a baby boy. The residents celebrate the new arrival in the Rovers. As it is getting late, Jack & Len go out to try and find Lucille (Jennifer Moss). Len later returns alone and breaks the news to Annie (Doris Speed) that Jack has suffered an accident and is in hospital.
