Penzance (1913 GWR) in T Gauge (1:480 scale)
Penzance is the terminus of the Great Western Railway (GWR) mainline to Cornwall and the West of England. This model is in T Gauge (1:480 scale), and depicts the station more or less as it was around 1913. The layout is 6 feet by 2 feet, and uses a linear motor drive system instead of conventional propulsion. It is a fully automated exhibition layout, including shunting and turning of all trains. It was filmed by just moving the camera around while the layout happily ran itself. All the trains and structures are 3D printed, with the track, electronics etc designed by myself. There are a number of compromises and distortions, some intentional and some not, but overall it is a reasonably accurate representation of the location. Remarkably little has changed in the last 111 years! More details on this layout and others can be found at my website https://modelrailmusings.weebly.com/ The music is the overture from The Pirates of Penzance by Gilbert and Sullivan, from a 1929 D'Oyly Carte recording. Other sound effects are from the BBC Sound Effects Library.
