With his unique suction abilities, which allow him not only to swallow and spit out enemies, but even copy their abilities and some of their appearance, he is an unusual character who is particularly popular in Japan. New main games and spin-offs have been released across multiple console generations worldwide on the SNES, N64, GBA, DS, Wii, 3DS, and most recently, "Kirby Star Allies," on the Nintendo Switch. The latest installment, "Kirby and the Forgotten Land," will be released on March 25, 2022—for the first time in 3D! While the three-dimensional levels are still quite linear, and the game is still based on an overworld where levels are selected, this is a great development compared to "Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards," which attempted a similar approach on the N64 in 2000. Kirby is pulled through a mysterious portal from Planet Pop into a deserted world—our deserted and rather overgrown Earth! Everything seems like a giant playground to him, but when he meets Chinchilla Elfilin and learns that "beasts" are locking the poor Waddle-Dees in cages and kidnapping them, he realizes the gravity of the situation and joins forces with him to save them! Their Waddle-Dee Town also needs to be rebuilt, and the only way to do that is to bring back its inhabitants! In this new adventure, Kirby encounters many new as well as familiar enemies and rivals, like King Dedede and Meta Knight... What fascinated players of all ages in 2D works just as well in 3D: jumping, flying, copying abilities, completing challenges in bonus rooms, solving puzzles, and defeating powerful bosses. New to this is the "Stuff Mode," which lets Kirby devour large objects from our planet and take on their properties. This can be a car, but also lightbulbs, stairs, and many other unusual things. This allows for some great gameplay mechanics! With the Waddle-Dee Assistant, a second player can join in and assist at any time. Kirby and the Forgotten Land could be the most ambitious and best Kirby game of all time! Since August 28, 2025, a Switch 2 version of the game, "Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + The Star Shard World," has been available in 4K at 60 FPS with a new story. After the world is hit by a powerful meteorite, Kirby must use his phenomenal abilities, including some new Stuff Modes, to collect Astralinis in new Astrilini sections of the familiar levels, or great disaster will ensue!
