Il numero di Reynolds e il comportamento bizzarro dei flussi
A fluid is a bizarre substance. Depending on whether it is more or less dense, more or less fast or even that it meets an obstacle along its more or less large path, the behavior of the flow changes radically. Is there a way to relate these properties (density, velocity, viscosity and size) in order to predict the behavior of a flow? Reynolds Number is the answer. This parameter was discovered by Osborne Reynolds, a Northern Irish engineer and physicist in 1883, during some experiments aimed at understanding the conditions under which the transition from a laminar regime to a turbulent regime was under way. Today the Reynolds number allows us to study the scale models in the wind tunnel. In fact, it is not enough to recreate a smaller model while maintaining the same geometry, but we must guarantee the so-called dynamic similarity, that is to say that the Reynolds number (between real and scale models is the same).
