Maya World pulls off the upset victory over Athena and advances to the finals of the Women's Owen Hart Cup, where she will face Mercedes Mone at Forbidden Door. What's interesting is that Athena had Maya World beat, but she didn't want to win by countout. Athena wanted to win the honorable way and that decision ended up costing her. Maya took advantage of the opening and scored a unique roll-up victory. If Maya World were just a little more seasoned in the ring and had a more established character, I'd honestly say: Screw it. Have her beat Mercedes Mone and go on to BEAT Thekla for the Women's World Championship at All In. The problem is that she's still developing as a performer and still has some growing to do before she's ready for that level of push. That being said, if you're looking for the person to finally dethrone Athena and free her up to move into the AEW Women's Division full-time, there's your girl. I would absolutely be open to seeing Maya World become the new ROH Women's World Champion. That feels much more in line with where she is right now. So while I'm still disappointed that we're not getting Athena vs. Mercedes Moné, I'm honestly not nearly as upset about it as I thought I would be after actually watching the match on AEW Collision.
